However, the Hand tracks Fisk down and has Lady Bullseye and her ninja accomplices brutally murder Marta and her children as part of their vendetta as the Kingpin. After being driven out of New York following Norman Osborn's rise to power, Fisk attempts to live a quiet life in a Spanish coastal fishing village. During this time he strikes up a romance with Marta while looking after her two young children.
Outside of his marriage to Vanessa, Kingpin's dark past has taken a toll on his other amorous pursuits, including a Spanish woman named Marta. Later, Vanessa would prove herself to be every inch as ruthless as Fisk when she launched her own criminal ambitions, even going as far as having Richard murdered when he became a liability to the family. However, after Vanessa was targeted by Fisk's long line of rivals and enemies, he quickly resumed his wicked ways with perhaps even more brutal fury than before as his fight for control became deeply personal.
Fisk's family initially strongly disapproved of his criminal activities, with Fisk eventually attempting to keep his business interests legitimate to respect his wife. Fisk's most prominent love interest is his ex-wife Vanessa Mariana, with whom they shared a son named Richard. Fisk's proposal to Mary in Daredevil #35 - by Chip Zdarsky, Stefano Landini, Francesco Mobili, Marcio Menyz, and VC's Clayton Cowles - is hardly his first experience with marriage.
